Abbreviations stand for: SC – Scheduled Caste, ST – Scheduled Tribe, OBC – Other Backward Class, GEN-General Category, OC-Orthopaedically Challenged, HI – Hearing Impaired, VI – Visually Impaired, EXSM – Ex-Servicemen. NOTES:

(A) The number of vacancies as also the number of reserved vacancies is provisional and may vary according to actual requirements of the Bank.

(B) Candidates belonging to reserved categories for which no vacancy has been announced are free to apply against vacancies announced for Unreserved/General category.

(C) The recruitment would be on State-wise/UT-wise basis. Candidates can apply for vacancies in one State/UT only and have to appear for the written examination from a Test Center allotted for that particular State/UT. They should be willing to be posted at any place in the respective State/UT for which vacancies are notified and application is submitted by the candidate concerned.

(D) A common written examination will be held on the same date for all the States/UTs for which vacancies are notified for administrative convenience only. No change in the preference of State/UT applied for and/or examination centre will be permitted after submission of the application. Selection of a State/Union Territory by a candidate would be construed as total willingness of the candidate to serve in any place within the said State/ Union Territory.

(E) As the reservation for OC/HI/VI and Ex-Servicemen candidates is on horizontal basis, the selected candidate will be placed in the appropriate category (viz., SC/ST/OBC/ General) to which he/she belongs to.

(F) It is clarified that it may not be possible to employ Physically Challenged candidates in all Offices/Branches of the Bank and they will have to work in the post identified by the Bank as suitable for them.

2. Scale of Pay : Rs 7200 – 400/3 – 8400 – 500/3 – 9900 – 600/4 – 12300 – 700/7 – 17200 -1300/1 – 18500 – 800/1 – 19300

DA,HRA etc. will be paid as per rules in force from time to time depending upon the place of posting. Medical, LFC, Terminal Benefits etc. will be as per prevailing rules.

3. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

a) Nationality / Citizenship:

A candidate must be either (i) a Citizen of India or (ii) a subject of Nepal or (iii) a subject of Bhutan or (iv) a Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st Jan. 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) & (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Govt. of India. Notes:

1. The relaxation in upper age limit is cumulative for SC/ST and OBC candidates only as per Govt.of India guidelines.

2. All persons eligible for age relaxation under (v) above must produce the domicile certificate at the time of interview, from the District Magistrate in the Kashmir Division within whose jurisdiction he/ she had ordinarily resided or any other authority designated in this regard by the Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir, to the effect that the candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the Kashmir Division of the state of Jammu & Kashmir during 1st January 1980 to 31st December 1989.

3. Above relaxations are available only if the candidates fulfill the various conditions prescribed in the Govt. of India orders and instructions in this regard. To claim relaxation in age, fees etc. reserved category candidates should submit a copy of the relevant certificate in support of his/her claim at the time of Pre-examination training and/or interview.

c) Minimum Qualification: Pass with 60% marks in 10+2 examination or its equivalent OR a degree in any discipline.

For SC/ST/ Ex-Servicemen/PC Category candidates: Pass with 50% marks in 10+2 examination or its equivalent OR a degree in any discipline.

Notes:

1. Educational Qualifications should be from a recognized University / Board.

2. Apart from the prescribed Educational Qualifications, Working Knowledge in MS office will be essential.

3. Candidate should be knowing how to read, write and speak the language of the State / UT for which he/she applies.

d) Definition of Ex-serviceman (EXSM) :

(i) Ex-servicemen: Only those candidates shall be treated as Ex-Servicemen who fulfill the revised definition as laid down in Govt. of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Deptt. Of Personnel & Administrative Reforms notification No. 36034/5/85/Estt (SCT) dated 27.10.1986 as amended from time to time.

(ii) Disabled Ex-Servicemen (DISXS) : Ex-Servicemen who while serving in Armed Forces of the Union were disabled in operation against the enemy or in disturbed areas shall be treated as

DISXS.

(iii) Dependents of Ex-Servicemen killed in action (DXS) : Servicemen killed in the following operations would be deemed to have been killed in action attributable to military service (a) war, (b) war like operations or Border Skirmishes either with Pakistan on cease fire line or any other country, (c) fighting against armed hostilities in a counter insurgency environment,viz. Nagaland, Mizoram, etc. (d) serving with peace keeping mission abroad, (e) laying or clearance of mines including enemy mines as also mine sweeping operation between one month before and three months after conclusion of an operation, (f) frost bite during actual operations or during the period specified by the Government, (g) dealing with agitating paramilitary forces personnel, (h) IPKF Personnel killed during the operations in Sri Lanka.

Notes:

(1) Candidates still serving in Defence Services and desirous of applying under Ex-Servicemen category should submit a certificate from the competent authority that they would be released/ retired on or before 30.06.2011.

(2) An Ex-servicemen candidate who has once joined the Govt. job on the civil side after availing of the benefits given to him as Ex-servicemen for his re-employment, his ex-serviceman status for the purpose of re-employment in job ceases.

(3) Ex-servicemen candidate who have already secured employment under the Central Govt. in Group’C’ & ‘D’ will be permitted the benefit of age relaxation as prescribed for Ex-Servicemen for securing another employment in a higher grade or cadre in Group ‘C’/ ‘D’ under the Central Govt. However, such candidates will not be eligible for the benefit of reservation for Ex-Servicemen in Central Govt. jobs.

e) Reservations for Physically Challenged Persons (PC) – Definition of Categories of Disabilities:

i) An Orthopaedically Challenged (OC) person is one suffering from Locomotor Disability or Cerebral Palsy.

Locomotor Disability: “Locomotor Disability” means disability of the bones, joints or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form of cerebral palsy. Cerebral Palsy: “Cerebral Palsy” means a group of non-progressive conditions of a person characterized by abnormal motor control posture resulting from brain insult or injuries occurring in the prenatal, perinatal or infant period of development.

ii) Hearing Impaired (HI): “Hearing Impairment” means loss of sixty decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies.

iii) Visually Impaired (VI) : The Visually Impaired persons are those with following disability : Blindness or low vision: “Blindness” refers to a condition where a person suffers from any of the following conditions:

• Total absence of sight;

• Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses,

• Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degree or worse.

“Person with low vision” means a person with impairment of visual functioning even after treatment or standard refractive correction but who uses or is potentially capable of using vision for the planning or execution of a task with appropriate assistive device.

iv) Only such person would be eligible for reservation in services / posts who suffer from not less than 40% of relevant disability and is certified by a Medical Board appointed by the Central/State Govt.

The visually impaired candidates and candidates whose writing speed is affected by cerebral palsy can use their own scribe at their cost during the written examination. In all such cases where a scribe is used, the following rules will apply:

i) The candidate will have to arrange his/her own scribe at his/her own cost.

ii) The academic qualification of the scribe should be one grade lower than the stipulated eligibility criteria

iii) The scribe can be from any academic discipline. The scribe should possess less marks than the candidate and not more than 60% marks in his own academic stream

iv) Both the candidate as well as the scribe will have to give a suitable undertaking, confirming that the scribe fulfils all the stipulated eligibility criteria for a scribe as mentioned above. Further, in case it later transpires that he/she did not fulfill any of the laid down eligibility criteria or suppressed material facts, the candidature of the applicant will stand cancelled, irrespective of the result of the written examination.

v) Such candidates who use a scribe shall be eligible for extra time of 20 minutes for every hour of the examination.

4. SELECTION PROCEDURE

Selection will be made on the basis of performance in Written Test and Interview taken together. Merely satisfying the eligibility norm does not entitle a candidate to be called for Written Test or Interview.

(a) The written test will be objective (Sl No 1 to 4) and descriptive type. The questions in objective tests except for the Test of English will be printed in bilingual, i.e. English and Hindi.The Questions in Descriptive Paper will be printed in bilingual i.e. English and Hindi version.The candidates will have the option to answer the Descriptive paper either in English or Hindi or Official Language of the State/UT for which they have applied. There will be negative marks for the wrong answers in the Objective Tests.

The candidates will be required to qualify in each objective test and also in the Descriptive Paper separately.

(b) The detailed information regarding the Written Test will be given in the booklet which will be sent to the eligible candidates along with the Call Letter for the Test.

(c) Depending upon the number of vacancies, only those candidates who rank sufficiently high in the merit list will be called for Interview. Mere eligibility/pass in the Test shall not vest any right in a candidate for being called for Interview. Final selection shall be made based on the ranking on the aggregate marks obtained in the Written Tests and Interview. Decision of the Bank in this regard shall be final.

The Bank, however, reserves the right to cancel any of the Test Centres and/ or add some other Centres,depending upon the response, administrative feasibility, etc. The Bank also reserves the right to allot the Candidate to any of the Centre other than the one he/she has opted for. Candidate will appear in the written test from a Test Centre allotted for the State/UT for which he/she has applied at his/her own expenses and risks and the Bank will not be responsible for any injury or losses etc. of any nature. No request for change of written test centre shall be entertained.

6. Pre-Examination Training

It is proposed to impart free Pre-Examination Training to a limited number of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/Minority Communities/Ex-servicemen category on “first come first serve” basis at Bengaluru, Ernakulam, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Patna, Ranchi, Raipur, Chandigarh, Shimla, Bhopal, Jammu, New Delhi, Bhubaneshwar, Jaipur, Chennai, Nagpur, Dehradun,Lucknow and Kolkata. An eligible candidate who wishes to avail of Pre-Examination Training should fill in the relevant field in the Online Application. The Bank, however reserves the right to cancel any of the above mentioned Pre-Examination Training Centres and/or add some other Centres depending upon the response, administrative feasibility etc.. All expenses regarding traveling, boarding, lodging etc. will be borne by the candidate for attending the Pre-Examination Training programme at the concerned Pre-Examination Training Centre.

8. PROBATION

On appointment, candidates will be on probation for a minimum period of 6 months, which may be extended by another 3 months in the Bank’s discretion. On successful completion of the probation,they will be confirmed in the Bank’s services.

9.  HOW TO APPLY

(i) Candidates are required to apply On-Line through Bank’s website www.ucobank.com only. No other means/mode of application will be accepted

(ii) Candidates are required to have a valid personal e-mail ID. It should be kept active for the duration of this recruitment project. Bank may send call letters for written test, interview etc. through the registered e-mail ID. Under no circumstances, he/she should share/mention e-mail ID to / of any other person.

(iii) In case a candidate does not have a valid personal e-mail ID, he/she should create his/her new e-mail ID before applying on-line.

(iv) Candidates are first required to go to the Bank’s website www.ucobank.com and click on the Home Page to open the link “Recruitment”

(v) Thereafter, open the Recruitment Notification titled “UCO BANK CLERICAL RECRUITMENT PROJECT-2010″.

(vi) Take a Print of the ‘FEE PAYMENT CHALLAN’.

(vii) Fill in the Fee Payment Challan in a clear and legible handwriting in BLOCK LETTERS. (viii)Go to the nearest UCO Bank Branch with the Fee payment Challan and pay, in Cash, the

appropriate Application Fee in the designated CBS Account as given in the fee payment challan. The details of fee to be paid is indicated below:

Please note that even if the date for Online registration is extended the dates for payment of application fee will remain unchanged i.e. 21.07.2010 to 28.08.2010.

Payment of application fee and/or postal charges by Demand Draft /Cheques/ MoneyOrders/ Postal Order etc will not be accepted.

(ix) Obtain the Candidate’s Copy of Counterfoil of the Application Fee Payment Challan duly receipted by the Bank under ‘Cash Received’ stamp and signature with (a) Branch Name & Branch Code Number, (b) Transaction ID, (c) Date of Deposit & amount duly written by the Branch Official.

(x) Candidate should preserve the original counter foil of the fee payment challan as they will have to submit the same along with the Call Letter at the time of the written test. Without original counterfoil of fee payment challan and the call letter for written test,the candidate will not be allowed to appear in the written test.

(xi) Candidate is now ready to apply On-Line by re-visiting the Recruitment Link on the Bank’s website and choosing the option “CLICK HERE TO APPLY ON-LINE” to open up the On-Line Application Form.

(xii) Candidates should carefully fill in the details from the Fee Payment Challan in the On-Line Application at the appropriate places. They should also fill in all other required details therein very carefully and click on the “SUBMIT” button at the end of the On-Line Application format. Before pressing the “SUBMIT” button,candidates are advised to verify every particular given in the application. The name of the candidate or his/her father/husband etc. should be spelt correctly in the application as it appears in the certificates/mark sheets. Any change/alteration found may disqualify the candidature.

(xiii) Information filled in on online application will be final. No further changes will be allowed.

(xiv) After applying on-line, the candidate should take a print out of the system generated on-line application form and retain it for future reference. They should not send this print out to the Bank.

(xv) Candidates are advised in their own interest to apply on-line much before the closing date and not to wait till the last date to avoid the possibility of disconnection/inability/failure to log on the Bank’s website on account of heavy load on internet/website jam.

(xvi) The Bank does not assume any responsibility for the candidates not being able to submit their applications within the last date on account of the aforesaid reasons or for any other reason beyond the control of the Bank.

(xvii)Please note that the above procedure is the only valid procedure for applying. No other mode of application or incomplete steps would be accepted and such applications would be rejected. 10. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

a) Candidates have to submit the original counterfoil of the fee payment challan and the written test call letter at the time of written test.

b) A recent, recognizable passport size photograph should be firmly pasted at the place indicated in the call letter for the Written Examination and the candidate must sign across the photograph so that a part of the signature spreads over the call letter beyond the photograph. Ten copies of the same photograph should also be retained for use in future. Candidates are advised not to change their appearance till the recruitment process is complete. Failure to produce the same photograph at the time of the interview may lead to disqualification.

c) Before applying for the post of Clerk, the candidate should ensure that he/she fulfils the eligibility and other norms mentioned in this advertisement. Candidates are therefore to carefully read this advertisement and follow all the instructions given for submitting online application. The Bank would be free to reject any application, at any stage of the Recruitment Process, if the candidate is found ineligible for the post for which he/she has applied. Decision of the Bank in all matters regarding eligibility of the candidate, the stages at which such scrutiny of eligibility is to be undertaken,qualifications and other eligibility norms, the documents to be produced for the purpose or the conduct of interview/selection etc. and any other matter relating to recruitment will be final and binding on the candidate. No correspondence or personal enquiries shall be entertained by the Bank in this behalf.

d) Not more than one application should be submitted by any candidate. Multiple Applications/Registrations will be summarily rejected and the application fee forfeited.

e) Applications once registered online will not be allowed to be withdrawn and/or the application fee, postage charges once paid will not be refunded nor be held in reserve for any other examination.

f) All candidates will have to produce, if called for interview, original as well as attested photocopies of the prescribed certificates in support of their Educational Qualification, Computer Literacy, Date of Birth, Caste/Community certificate, Certificate of Disability issued by the competent authority, as specified in Para 11 in the prescribed format, failing which their candidature will be liable to be cancelled.

g) Candidates serving in Government/Quasi Government Offices/Public Sector Undertakings (including Nationalized Banks & Financial Institutions) will be required to submit “No Objection Certificate” from the employer at the time of interview, failing which the candidature may not be considered and travelling expenses, if any, otherwise admissible, will not be reimbursed.

h) Any resulting dispute arising out of this advertisement including the recruitment process shall be subject to the sole jurisdiction of the Courts situated at Kolkata.

i) The candidates will have to appear for the written tests and/or interview at their own expense. SC/ST/PC candidates called for interview will be paid actual IInd Class to & fro Rail/Bus fare by the shortest route on production of evidence of travel, i.e Railway/ Bus Receipt/Ticket(s) for attending the interview.

ST Candidates may be reimbursed the sea-passage by the lowest class (exclusive of diet charges) coming from Lakshadweep, Minicoy and Andaman & Nicobar Islands to attend interview/written test on the main lands as well as in the Island centers provided that the distance covered by sea is more than 30KM each way.

j)   No candidate is permitted to use or have possession of Calculators, Mobile Phones, Pagers

or any other instruments in the Examination Hall. k)  Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.

l) As many of the above openings are in rural and remote areas of the concerned States, candidates willing to work at remote/rural areas of such States till their promotion to officers’ cadre need alone apply.

m) In case it is detected at any stage of recruitment that a candidate does not fulfill the eligibility norms and/or that he/she has furnished any incorrect/false information/certificate/documents or has suppressed any material fact(s), his/her candidature will stand cancelled. If any of these short comings is/are detected even after appointment, his/her services are liable to be terminated.

Any request for change of address will not be entertained.

The Bank takes no responsibility to connect any Certificate/Remittance sent separately. In case any dispute arises on account of interpretation of version other than English, English version will prevail.

Candidate’s admission to the examination is strictly provisional. The mere fact that the call letter has been issued to the candidate does not imply that his candidature has been finally cleared by the Bank.

Candidates should ensure that the signatures appended by them in all the places viz. in their call letter, attendance sheet etc. and in all correspondences with the Bank in future should be identical and there should be no variation of any kind.

Collector/First Class Stipendary Magistrate/ Sub-Division Magistrate/Taluka Magistrate/Executive Magistrate/Extra Assistant Commissioner/Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Presidency Magistrate/Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tahsildar/Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and/or his/her family normally resides. For Physically Challenged: Authorized Certifying Authority will be a Medical Board duly constituted by the Central/State Govt. having at least 3 members out of which at least one shall be a specialist in the particular field for assessing locomotor/cerebral/visual/hearing disability as the case may be.

Action Against Candidates Found Guilty of Misconduct

Candidates are advised in their own interest that they should not furnish any particulars that are false, tampered, fabricated and should not supress any material information while submitting online application. At the time of written examination/ interview, if a candidate is (or has been) found guilty of – (i) using unfair means during the examination or subsequent selection procedure or (ii) impersonating or procuring impersonation by any person or (iii) misbehaving in the examination hall or taking away the question booklet (or any part thereof)/ answer sheet from the examination hall or (iv) resorting to any irregular or improper means in connection with his/her candidature for selection or (v) obtaining support for his/ her candidature by unfair means, such a candidate may, in addition to rendering himself/herself liable to criminal prosecution, be liable : (a) To be disqualified from the examination for which he/ she is a candidate.

To be debarred either permanently or for a specific period from any examination or recruitment conducted by UCO Bank.

For termination of service, if he/ she has already joined the Bank.The Bank would be analyzing the responses of a candidate with other candidates to detect patterns ofsimilarity, if as per the laid down procedure, it is suspected that the responses have been shared and scores obtained are not genuine/valid, the bank reserves right to cancel his/ her candidature. 13. CALL LETTERS FOR WRITTEN EXAMINATION

The date of the Written Examination has been tentatively fixed for 14.11.2010 (Sunday). However, the date of Examination shall be intimated in the Call Letter along with the Centre/ Venue address.

All eligible candidates will be issued Call letters at the correspondence address, given by the candidates in their online application, which will be sent by ordinary post. An eligible candidate who does not receive the Call letter by 06.11.2010 should contact the UCO Bank at the following address along with the application print out, ID Card and original fee payment challan for issue of duplicate Call letter. Duplicate call letters will be issued at the following Bank’s offices between 08.11.2010 to 13.11.2010.
